The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress.
Joseph Joubert, French Philosopher (1754-1824)
Today Tallahassee, Tomorrow the World
As we speak a group of us in the quaint southern village of Tallahassee are talking about just how we might go about using a bit of mouth-to-mouth to breathe the spirit of the Village Square back into America today. We’re still working on details, but we do know that there will be good food available and absolutely no hitting involved.
Don’t be left out. Email us at tallahassee@tothevillagesquare.org
Board of Directors
Joining The Village Square Board of Directors are community leaders from across Tallahassee, both Democrats and Republicans, who believe that disagreement, dialog, and discernment of fact are important to common sense problem solving. Our board is represented by a City and County Commissioner, educators, business owners, religious and other non-profit leaders, as well as other professionals. We actively sought diverse opinions and philosophies, in fact, the board includes leading public voices on each side of our recent community debate on coal.

Founders
Founders are the lifeblood of The Village Square. Composed of about 50 to 75 people invited by the Board of Directors, the Founders create the culture of civility at The Square, primarily by showing up, debating issues, making friends and having fun. Tough job, isn’t it?

Student VolunteersAre you a student in Tallahassee who needs community service hours to get into a good college so that you too can grow up to be a talking, thinking agreeable disagree-er?
Well, you can be an apprentice. You know that’s what they called young people in colonial days who did all the work so that the blacksmiths and silversmiths and bakers could talk and read and think and eat fattening food and drink. Some good ideas are just timeless. Email us at cheaplabor@tothevillagesquare.org
A Square in your Village
Certain we’re onto something, though not quite ready to go global, we’re unnaturally sure that explosive growth is right around the corner. Interested in getting civil dialog going in your very own village? Stay in the loop on our exceedingly more polite re-do of manifest destiny by emailing us at westwardho@tothevillagesquare.org .
We plan to offer help in getting other Squares rolling. Soon we expect to be able to send you a Village Square starter kit including kickin’ bumper stickers and t-shirts and rubber chickens (don’t ask). Once you’re official, you can get custom bumper stickers that proudly announce, in a one if by land and two if by sea-ish way, that your hometown is a village with a square.
They’ll probably give you a key to the city.
