Teen Square
About Teen Square
Teen2 is a program for high school seniors who are interested in politics and government. It is sponsored by The Village Square, a nonprofit organized by a bipartisan group of community leaders concerned with reviving a constructive community dialog across the partisan divide.
We are now accepting invitations from the class of 2014 for Teen Square participation in their senior year.
Benefits to participating students
- Earn a minimum of 25 volunteer hours for Bright Futures and college applications.
- Participate in unique conversations on civic issues with local community leaders.
- Learn concepts of democracy, debate and dialogue; practice “agreeable disagreement.”
- Experience teamwork putting together a large event.
- Two tickets for one “Dinner at the Square” event for your parents.
Responsibilities of participating students
Applicants must commit to attend, if selected, all meetings on the following date and times:
Thursday, August 22th, 2013; 5:30 to 7:00 PM
Thursday, October 24, 2013; 5:30 to 7:00 PM
Thursday, January 9th, 2014; 5:30 to 7:00 PM
Thursday March 27, 2014, 5:30 to 7:00 PM
Teen Square members must fulfill a volunteer service component by assisting with 3 Tuesday night “Dinner at the Square” events (set-up, staffing and clean-up). These dates are not set firm, but if any of these dates does not work, the participant can choose an alternate Tuesday night “Take-out Tuesday” forums to attend (there are usually many date choices), to complete 3 events. There will likely be events on Thursday nights as well, but if you are never available on Tuesday nights, there is a publicity/poster distribution volunteer service option alternative you can request.
Applications will be accepted spring semester from high school juniors in Leon County to participate in Teen2 their senior year.

Guidelines for Selection
The Village Square will seek responsible students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 un-weighted who have demonstrated they are self-starters. Students should be able to work constructively with peers who differ from them. Political diversity will be a primary concern for selection of Teen2 classes.
