Susan Story is President and CEO of Gulf Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company–one of the largest producers of electricity in the United States. First joining the Southern Company in 1982 as a nuclear power plant engineer, Ms. Story is now the youngest executive, and the first woman, ever to lead a Southern operating company. She exemplifies a commitment to community involvement in her service on the boards of the Florida Council of 100, Florida Chamber of Commerce (current Chair), Enterprise Florida, James Madison Institute, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Rebuild Northwest Florida, and Florida “Step Up For Students” among many others. Ms. Story has been appointed to, and is currently serving on, the Florida Taxation and Budget Reform Commission, the Florida BRAC Advisory Council, the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission, and serves on the executive committee of the Volunteer Florida Disaster Recovery Fund. She has received civic awards and honors including, among numerous others, the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year for 2007, the 2007 “International Women’s Day Award” from World Trade Center Miami, the “Ethics in Business Award” for 2006 awarded by The University of West Florida and Rotary Club, and the “Leaders and Legends Award” for Environmental Leadership for 2006.
