Andrew Gillum is entering his eighth year on the Tallahassee City Commission, having begun his service as the youngest person ever elected to the commission. Commissioner Gillum has played a leadership role in several community initiatives including the Landlord Tenant Mediation Program; the Code Enforcement Amnesty Program; Good Neighbor energy assistance program, and Affordable Housing issues. Gillum initiated the Digital Harmony Initiative, a program to close the digital divide in Tallahassee. In June 2003, Gillum received the “Emerging Leaders Award” from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. Gillum founded and serves as the National Executive Director of the Young Elected Officials Network. He is the Director of Youth Leadership Programs for People for the American Way Florida.

Bob McClure
President and CEO James Madison Institute

Bob McClure is the President and CEO of The James Madison Institute (JMI). JMI is a nonpartisan, public policy research organization with members in Florida, across the country and around the world. JMI’s ideas are rooted in the U.S. Constitution and the principles of economic freedom, limited government, education reform, healthcare reform and private property rights. Bob was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Florida Elections Commission and has served on the State of Florida Education Strategic Planning Council. He has been published at both the state and national level on numerous topics including property rights, tax policy, healthcare and education reform and has lectured nationally on multiple policy issues. He was most recently appointed to the Florida Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Carol Weissert
Director, LeRoy Collins Institute, Florida State University

As the Director of the LeRoy Collins Institute, Dr. Weissert works to perpetuate the leadership of Governor LeRoy Collins by developing and promoting bold, visionary public policy that will empower and uplift Floridians for generations to come. She is the LeRoy Collins Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor of Political Science at Florida State University. Her research focuses on federalism and intergovernmental issues and state policy. Dr. Weissert has published over four dozen articles in political science and public policy journals and is the author or co-author of four recent books. She was the co-author (with David Denslow) of Tough Choices: Shaping Florida’s Future for the Collins Institute and the editor of Publius: The Journal of Federalism published by Oxford University Press.

Neil Skene

Neil Skene is perhaps best known around Florida for his monthly column on state government for Florida Trend. He was the St. Petersburg Times bureau chief in Tallahassee during the Bob Graham administration and went on to be the editor of the afternoon paper in St. Petersburg and to serve on Times editorial board. Neil also has a national perspective on local government from 10 years as editor and president of Congressional Quarterly in Washington, D.C. Neil founded Classified Intelligence, which advises clients around the world on the shift of classified advertising to the web. He has spoken at journalism programs in Lebanon, Russia, Eritrea, Swaziland and South Africa and is a visiting professor at FSU. He is a member of the board of directors of The Village Square.
